Groupon Voucher and the Buffet at Waterside Cafe; Hyatt, Kolkata

12:51 PM

If you have read my blog then you know that I belong to a simple middle class family. We believe in splurging but only in moderation. It's not everyday that we go out for a brunch or dinner at a five star property and even if we do, we look for a deal  that gives us value for money. and exactly here the vouchers of Groupon comes into play.

Frankly enough I had no clue of what groupon vouchers were before I was contacted by their PR group in Kolkata. For the uninitiated, Groupon is a Worldwide deal-of-the-day website that features discounted gift certificates usable at local or national companies. It's a free service which every 24 hours broadcasts a collection of discount coupons on selected products and services. If you register at their site you will automatically receive notifications of each days coupons. Once you like a certain deal, you can purchase it online, take a print out and can redeem it at the restaurant or store at a considerable amount of discount.

The deal for me was to get the Buffet at Waterside Cafe worth Rs.1971.00 for only Rs.999.00. It's been long that I was able to spend some quality time with the husband sans the kids. So we planned for a small hiatus from the daily routine and headed to the beautifully landscaped property of Hyatt.

Yes, Summer is finally here. After a few days of hide and seek with torrential rain here and there finally the mercury gained back it's power and rose to 34C today. with scorching afternoon sun and balmy evening breeze finally it felt like summer. and there begins a long stretch of hot and humid time that we dread the most. Somehow after the childhood excitement of Summer vacation got over, I never looked forward to these hot months.

Especially not now when Summer means a month long vacation, too hot to step outside and being confined at home with one bored kid and an overactive toddler. God save me!

No, Summer does not fascinate me at all, Not here in India.

Having said that I must confess that I like the other summery things very much. Especially the Summer flowers, fruits and Summery fabric, as tropical and exotic as it could get.

After my last post many of my friends asked what did you have the Mishti Pulao with? some were even more conspicuous and asked directly if there is mutton curry to mop off the pulao? Well yes. There was a mutton curry but not the usual Bengali style runny jhol (soupy gravy) or rich Mutton Kasha. Rather an aromatic, slow cooked velvety yogurt based gravy nesting the most succulent and juicy meat balls. Yes, you guessed it right. Mutton Kofta curry it was, which I slow cooked over a period of an hour.

Tomorrow is Nababarsho(Bengli new year) and your posted such everyday curry recipes on the Blog? Chimed the husband in the phone.

I felt puzzled, is he joking? Tomorrow is what?

And if that was not enough you said you are still in denial that Winter got over when you were busy. how funny is it to say that in middle of April? have you totally lost it?

I mumbled but dint look for an answer rather tried sorting the order of events in my head. The sonny boy's new session started on 9th and it's exactly a week after that ...Poila Boisakh or the first day of Bengali new year generally falls around 14th of April...which means yes Its almost poila boisakh.

But is it tomorrow? am still in Denial. Are you sure? I asked the husband almost in disbelief.
